Cupping, Gua Sha & Moxa

Bodywork can be integrated into your acupuncture session and may include therapeutic massage, cupping, gua sha, or moxibustion.

Cupping uses specialised glass cups to create gentle suction on the skin, encouraging a lifting effect that supports circulation, eases muscular tension, and promotes relaxation. Cupping has widespread use in Chinese Medicine so may be incorporated into treatments for a variety of conditions.

Gua Sha is a technique that uses a smooth, blunt object like a Chinese soup spoon or a specialised tool to scrape areas of the body where there is tightness or pain in order to relax muscles and unblock stagnation. It is also often used in the early stages of a cold or flu to release ‘heat toxins’.

Moxibustion, or Moxa, is acupuncture’s less-known partner. It involves gently burning processed mugwort leaf on or near the body to stimulate acupoints. It has widespread application and will be used alongside acupuncture when suitable.
